Shopping time!

So I went to Hobby Lobby after work today. Always a dangerous thing for this Sunshine. I got lots of paper (though I was good and put some back), an album, and some other little stuff:

I LOVE the Christmas stack so much. I love the red, white and black theme and really wish they'd had a 12x12. We still have a few months until Christmas, so maybe they will get one in. The skeleton thing is a candy mold and you put the pieces on a brownie to make it look like it's in the ground. Seems like it will be tons of fun. And it was only $1.99! The stickers at the bottom are some velvet color-in deals. They were only $0.19 and I think they could be used on cards. Or just for something fun.

So here's what I created with my new goodies:

I'd already cut the monkey from the Create A Critter cart, then put some twisted green ribbon across the top. Added some punched leaves and then taped it to the base. It seems like it needs a saying in the bottom right corner, but not sure what. I'll probably just leave it blank for now.

Name change

Changed the name of my blog today. Everyone at my work calls me Sunshine, so I thought Sunshine Smiles would be a cuter name than Julie's Scrap Blog. BOOORING.

I know I said I'd have a post about the scrap cabinet, but I haven't made time for that yet. I'd like to post that and also my scrap area soon.

Last week in my quest to declutter my house, I found a huge stack of old scrap magazines from around 2003. It's been funny to see the old products and I recognize a lot of designer's names that I have learned thanks to the Peas. Also while looking, I really see where my style of scrapping comes from. It's all very basic and simple compared to some layouts that I've seen lately.

I haven't really been in a scrapping mood over the past month or two. Actually, probably since I got my scrap cabinet. I've done some cards, but cannot seem to finish a layout. I'm hoping that will change soon because I'd really like to get moving on all these photos I've taken recently!

A few cards

Still no working computer at home, but I did buy a card reader today so that I can upload photos while I'm on break at work. Here's a few cards I've made over the past couple weeks. They're all pretty simple since that is the style that I seem to work best with.

Father's Day cards for my step-grandpa and step dad. Was trying to make my step dad's be Disney without being too crazy obvious. The paper is from the Naturals Mat stack by DCWV.

This is my dad's Father's Day card...

He just recently got a new Jeep and it's a Tuxedo Park, so inside I put "Hope your day is as cool as Tuxedo's Park." Silly, but he laughed, so it was worth it. I really wish I had fixed the google eye before taking the picture.

Made with Create a Critter and Locker Talk cricut carts.

My niece loves giraffes:

I started out by making the tiny one on the right, but it just wasn't big enough for me. Made the bigger blue one but it didn't seem right either. Still unsure as to why I didn't make it pink to begin with since little girls love their pink. My sister said I had to put a 4 on there so I did. I believe it's from the Robotz cart.

Thank you cards for my step brother and his new wife:

Was trying to keep it basic since I had to make quite a few. The edges of the red are inked except you can't see it too well here.

And lastly - birthday card for my best friend's Gram:

I swear the ribbon matches better in real life! Inside I used the Scrappy Moms Amusing Animals poodle stamp. Love that set!

Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to post some photos of my new scrap furniture and the adventures I've been having since his arrival...

Anxiously awaiting

I've been without good internet access and a good computer at my house, so I've had plenty of time to make new cards. Only problem is that I cannot upload them. :( How sad. My computer part is still in the mail somewhere, but hopefully it will be here soon so I can share some stuff!

Also, last week I ordered a scrap shelf from Chandler's Creations. I have tons of other organizers for my supplies, but honestly it's not working for me so I took the plunge and bought one of the bigger pieces. I spoke with Betty there (via email) and she answered my question quickly and has been very nice. Now all I have to do is wait. It is due on Monday, so this weekend will be fun as I clear out the spot where this will go. Still not sure where my Bug will go, but I have no doubt I will find him a good spot!

Fly Lady

Signed up for flylady.net today. My house is a mess and I am hoping that I can get some inspiration and tips from this site to get things in their proper order. Tonight my task is to get a 3 ring binder to start my journal. No doubt I will decorate it with my cricut. That's productive towards cleaning, right..... ?

Cricut Lite

At lunch today I happened to go to Walmart to pick up a few things. Of course I had to go to the scrap section, and upon getting there, I found it was nearly empty. Seems they are getting new stuff in. I got a few Cricut markers and then some stickers. But the big thing I found was new Cricut cartridges.

They are called Cricut Lite. I didn't buy any at the time since I figured I could find them online for cheaper than the $39 they were selling for. When I got back to work, I couldn't find ANYthing about these carts, so I posted to the message boards to see if the peas knew anything about it. A few had, but seems most were curious as to what they were.

I stopped at the Walmart near my house on the way home and they had nothing. Well... ok I got some replacement mats. At about 930 I went to yet another Walmart and the lady there was just putting them out. I waited a while, then checked them out. The lady was kind of suspicious that I was standing there taking pictures, so I didn't get as many as I'd hoped.

I'm not too crazy about the $39 price, but I got the Hoot 'n' Holler one anyway. It seemed like it would make some cute cards.

Here's a few of the photos my friend and I got of the carts: Enjoy!

Bug Bites!

Wow, it's been a long time since I've posted here. I really need to keep up with this better.

I've been making a ton of cards still for OWH and collected some Any Hero letters at a car show a few weekends ago. Also wrote several while I sat there. It seems like once you write that first one, it's pretty easy to write more. Here's a photo of me at the booth.

Also a few weeks ago, I got a Cricut! Finally! I'd talked about it for over a year and finally bit the bullet and got the big bug. Love it to pieces! Bought Create a Critter the same day and I love that almost as much :)

At first I didn't like many of the cartridges, but found a bunch on sale for $25 each and so now I have 15! Just waiting for them to get here.

Here's a card that I made with Create a Critter:

I used some random alpha paper from an old DCWV stack for the background and then inked it to give it that little extra. I think the dino was cut at 3". Seems to be a good size if that is the main thing on the front of the card. Gonna have too much fun making cards with this cart!

Not much else to say other than my best friend and I are going to the Great American Scrapbook Convention in Arlington, TX this weekend. Just to shop - not to take classes or anything, but it should be tons of fun! We cannot wait :)

Duh

Ok so I've been using a variety of glues while making my cards and some of them are a little warped. Was trying to get a good balance of making it stick and not looking all lumpy and it just wasn't working. My best friend was talking to someone at her work who suggested a tape runner.

All I can say is DUH.

I haven't ever used one, so I'm guessing that's why it didn't occur to me to use that on the cards. I have one in my stash that I picked up from Big Lots a while back. Gonna have to try that tonight if I do cards.

Saturday, March 13, 2010

Hello there! I finally started a blog here so that I could follow several other crafty blogs and store blogs. I thought I'd posted here before, but it seems the posts are gone. No biggie, I can make more. ;)

A few weeks ago, my best friend and I started making greeting cards. I made more than I could send so I started trying to figure out what to do with the extra cards. A poster on the Two Peas message boards mentioned Operation Write Home, so I googled it and figured out that this was the perfect thing for me to participate in.

I've been a scrapbooker and a stamper for years, and this seems like it will be a great way to use up some of my extra supplies. Course that doesn't mean that I haven't bought new stuff to use to make cards..... Plus it will be lots of fun!

I have made about 25 cards so far and cannot wait to make more!
